Taipei Impressions

Taipei Impressions

I have been curious about Taiwan for years and despite advice against going during the deadly summer heat, I made a trip to Taiwan for the first time! Jerry has family in Taiwan and has visited many times, but I didn’t quite know what to expect other than the heat – seriously, that’s the only thing everyone kept telling (or warning, rather) us about. And everyone was not joking – high temperatures combined with humidity caused fast exhaustion and made it hard to see as much as we wanted to. While I was happy with the number of activities we…

A Desert Getaway at Holiday House

A Desert Getaway at Holiday House

I hate being in the heat, but love a good California desert getaway for some reason. On my first vacation on my job, I went to Palm Springs. During this long weekend, we spontaneously booked a night at Holiday House, a boutique hotel at the center of town, and it was such a great little break. We stayed in their smallest room type – “Good” – but it was still spacious with a comfy king sized bed. From clean white tiles to a mini Jeff Koons, the room has really tasteful and modern decor. Toiletries? No other than one of…

Maui Travel Diaries

Maui Travel Diaries

It’s been over a month since we returned from Maui but I’m only now really working on my travel diaries. These posts are some of the most time consuming because I overthink them. But I probably don’t need to worry about it too much for a place as awesome as Maui. I can’t really make it look bad. Instead of trying to cover everything, I’m just going to highlight some of my favorite things that. Here it goes! Hikes Maui is not city like at all, so we knew we would be spending a lot of time out in the…

5 Maui Outfits

5 Maui Outfits

I went to Maui for a week! It was one of the best trips I have ever been on. After trips I always find the task of writing blog posts a bit daunting because 1) there are usually so many photos to go through, 2) I want to the destination justice and 3) I need all the energy I have to get back into the full-time working life! The post trip blues were particularly real this time… So I’m going to leave most of the trip highlights for another post and focus on my outfits in this one. I find…

California Coast Road Trip – Christmas 2017

California Coast Road Trip – Christmas 2017

My family loves a good road trip (read about our trips to Sedona and Norcal). We don’t really like to plan things too early so everything stays pretty spontaneous and relaxed. For Christmas this year, we went on a short trip to visit Hearst Castle, located along the coast of central California, about four hours from Los Angeles. Even though the trip was only three days, we hit a lot of spots. I’m going to share a few highlights here but we also got to observe elephant seals and visit San Luis Obispo, among other things. I hope you enjoy…

Zzyzx – Abandoned Desert Oasis

Zzyzx – Abandoned Desert Oasis

Zzyzx, formerly Soda Springs, is an unincorporated area in the Mojave Desert. The word “zzyzx” is named as such by Curtis Howe Springer because he wanted it to be the last word in the dictionary. A skim through his Wikipedia page¬†quickly paints a picture of the kind of person he was. He opened a spa in the area but later got into multiple legal disputes with the government, and the spa eventually became abandoned. As a part of a road trip back from Las Vegas, we stopped by Zzyzx to see what it’s all about. After a couple days in…
