Taking a Breather – Part II

Taking a Breather – Part II

Exactly a year ago today I put up a post called Taking a Breather after having had a really busy and stressful month. I wrote about things that helped me relax that included cooking, blogging, trip planning, and shopping. Funnily, I find myself in a very similar situation on this day. I took a week off in Maui this month which should have left me utterly relaxed, but the rest of the weeks were more stressful than usual. I wouldn’t go as far as saying I’m going through a crisis as much as I’m just experiencing a normal, probably healthy,…

5 Maui Outfits

5 Maui Outfits

I went to Maui for a week! It was one of the best trips I have ever been on. After trips I always find the task of writing blog posts a bit daunting because 1) there are usually so many photos to go through, 2) I want to the destination justice and 3) I need all the energy I have to get back into the full-time working life! The post trip blues were particularly real this time… So I’m going to leave most of the trip highlights for another post and focus on my outfits in this one. I find…

Women’s Day – Today and Every Day

Women’s Day – Today and Every Day

This is a couple days late but I think it’s okay because every day should be Women’s Day! International Women’s Day has been one of the only holidays that I was aware of since growing up in China. But it has never meant as much to me as it did this year. Like I mentioned in this post, recent movements resulted in changes in gender dynamics that made me feel empowered and validated. As the society is going through difficult but ultimately necessary changes, I have some much smaller, personal goals as a woman: When hit on by a guy,…

Spring – Not Here Just Yet

Spring – Not Here Just Yet

It has been a very cold and windy week here in Los Angeles – I’m talking as low as 39 degrees (around 4 degrees Celsius) at night. It has caught me by surprise as I thought spring’s just around the corner and I’ve already been thinking about summer dresses and sandals. My trusty All Saints leather jacket has been a staple but even that hasn’t totally kept me warm this week. Thankfully I have a cozy Karen Millen jacket with a faux-fur collar. I paired it with a black and white outfit with my purple/burgundy ankle boots from Zara as…

Sunday Thoughts #3 // LA Arboretum

Sunday Thoughts #3 // LA Arboretum

It’s not quite Sunday but it’s been a little quieter here on my blog than I’d like, so I’m sharing some thoughts/updates! The photos are from our recent visit to Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Garden, located in Arcadia. It’s known for its free roaming peacocks. I had visited previously in high school, but that was before I lived in the middle of the chaos that is LA city, so I didn’t appreciate how peaceful and well-maintained the arboretum is. If you live in LA I’d highly recommend a visit! But anyway, here’s some randomness:¬† Movies //¬†Every January and…

An Alternative Valentine’s Day Look (and Attitude)

An Alternative Valentine’s Day Look (and Attitude)

Nowadays it seems that every holiday is merely a retail opportunity. Red clothing and accessories are being pushed to the forefront in major LA department stores for imminent Chinese New Year celebrations. These are not to be confused with Valentine’s Day sales, of course, as these items are displayed underneath red lanterns, red envelopes, and well wishes written in Chinese calligraphy. There are a lot of holidays I love and look forward to, but there are some that I could definitely live without. The expectations are always sky high for days like New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day that they…
