‘Tis the Season to be Jolly

For many reasons, December has been especially fun and festive for me this year. I’ve realized that for someone who isn’t into everything holiday related, this time of year is actually pretty dreadful. But thankfully, from shopping, gift wrapping, to baking and decorating, I’m excited about it all. This is the first year I haven’t had any finals to take, so what better time to spend some effort on showing people how much they matter to me? I started gathering gifts for friends and family since as early as Thanksgiving, and one of the gifts I’m most proud of are these delicious gingerbread stout cupcakes I made from scratch:

This was the first time I made both the cupcakes and the frosting from scratch, so I was extremely relieved when they turned out well on my first try. My favorite thing about them was that while they were sweet, there was a kick to it from the ginger and cinnamon – so very Christmassy. Because I was so satisfied with the cupcakes themselves, I thought the packaging had to match. I got these Wilton cupcake boxes, baker’s twine, Kraft paper, and tags from Michael’s (hands down one of the best stores for the holidays), and used them to wrap all my gifts this year! It’s so easy but so pretty.

Of course, the holiday seasons calls for festive home decor. I made my own centerpiece with some potpourri and a candle, and my family put up a gorgeous (fake) Christmas tree. Ahh, it really is the best time of the year.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
