How can you breathe in China? Does everyone really wear masks outside? China’s heavy smog has fascinated foreigners more than anything else, making China literally more mysterious than it already can be. Being back in Beijing for the first time in almost two years, however, I’ve noticed things beyond its imperfections and difficulties. The smog was apparent as soon as I first glanced outside of my plane window as we approached Peking International Airport. On the ride home, everything was hard to see, even though our apartment is technically in the suburbs of Beijing, where it’s less developed but populated…

I usually wouldn’t call myself a trend follower, not because I think I’m too cool for trends, but because I’m simply too lazy to update my wardrobe every season. This fall, however, I can’t help but notice that thigh high boots are everywhere, and they look amazing on almost every outfit. So I just had to get myself a pair. I had been anxiously waiting for them in the mail for over a week, and now that they’re here, I feel more fall ready than ever. There was a while when it seemed like summer would never end, but somehow,…

You would think that it’s annoying to live in areas flooded with tourists, and for California, that is all year round. Quaint beach towns, however, are an exception. Locals and tourists blend in together much more as everyone is having a relaxing and peaceful time. Whenever I stroll down streets in Laguna Beach, I feel as if I’m on a vacation with my family. Today I went to Brussels Bistro in downtown Laguna – the first Belgian restaurant I’ve been to outside of Belgium. Last year I was lucky enough to go to Belgium with my best friend, and while…

As much as I appreciate good quality coffee, taste is not the only or even the most important reason for me to love a coffee shop. I love coffee shops because of their atmospheres, their people, and the conversations I could have there, whether it’s light hearted gossiping, or deep and meaningful catch-up sessions. I am no expert in coffee – Starbucks is more than good enough for me – but I do know which coffee shops draw me back time and again. These are few coffee shops in San Diego that I enjoy immensely: Pannikin …

Going on a picnic has been on my summer to do list for months now, and thanks to SoCal’s never ending summer, I was finally able to check it off my list despite of my procrastination. One of the reasons I’ve been putting it off is because of how much work a picnic can entail. However, today we just opted to buy some wraps, fruit, and chips from a grocery store, as well as some chips and guac from Chipotle – so much less work than cooking. The weather today was a bit gloomy and windy – very atypical for…

About a month ago I had one of the best days of my summer – I dolled up, had the most delicious and oh-so-British afternoon tea with my dear friend Cathy, went exploring in different shops to buy candles and home ware, and spontaneously decided to go see the sunset on Mt. Soledad. Like La Jolla Shores, Mt. Soledad is only a few minutes away from my place, and it just happens to be one of the coolest spots in San Diego. Here are a few snapshots: What I’m Wearing: Top: Equipment Skirt: Zara Sandals: Franco Sarto

On Sunday my friends and I went on a day trip to LA to visit friends, eat, and just get out of our ordinary routines. While you may call that a “weekend escape”, we found being in LA a rather stressful experience – the traffic, the parking.. urg. Luckily we stumbled across Grand Hope Park, a tiny urban oasis next to FIDM where people napped on grass and kids played in an urban beach. Surrounded by tall apartment buildings, the park provided a sense of peace and quiet that I’ve rarely experienced in LA.

Despite of living in La Jolla for over four years, I’ve managed to always find excuses not to go to the beach regularly… until now. With a lot free time on my hands and La Jolla Shores being only a few minutes away, I find myself wandering there every few days. The beauty and serenity of it all never cease to amaze me.
